Matrix Develops a New High Speed/Low Waste Form Fill and Seal Bagging Solution for Snack Food Packagers
Oct 11, 2018Matrix Packaging Machinery, a product brand of ProMach, introduces the Morpheus continuous motion vertical form fill and seal (VFFS) machine integrated with the SmartGate™ product concentrator. This new solution improves packaging line profitability for snacks packaged in 3.5-inch-wide bags and smaller. As compared to most VFFS machines, output for this new solution will increase the number of filled packages produced per minute by up to 35 percent and reduce the number of improperly sealed bags by up to 20 percent.

When snack foods such as trail mix, dried fruit, nuts, and candy flow through a narrow-width forming tube, there are typically timing issues. At unpredictable intervals, some product along the trailing edge arrives as the jaws are closing, which traps product in the end-seal, causing a bad seal and a bag that must be scrapped along with the contents. With the patented SmartGate concentrator, each bag receives a single compact charge of product that arrives in mass before the jaws close.

Morpheus continuous motion VFFS is rated at up to 200 bags per minute. It is ideal for thinner gauge films used for packaging snacks, spices, cheeses, dried fruit, coffee, and other dry products. Every Morpheus features AutoPro for fast, precise changeover through servo-controlled axes. AutoPro results in a minimum of 50 percent faster changeover compared to manual changeover.
