Morpheus Box-Motion VFFS

The Matrix Morpheus is designed for films requiring higher dwell time in order to create a perfect seal. The machine provides manufacturers with complete control of dwell time regardless of speed. One of the most unique features of the new machine is that it accommodates such a wide range of package widths – one machine, in effect, doing the work normally required of two. Advanced engineering is responsible for the distinctive sealing jaw that can accommodate high-speeds, a range of width sizes, and longer dwell times. The space saving 36-inch wide frame is a plus for any packaging room.

Mike Crummy with Matrix Packaging Machinery, powered by Pro Mach, introduces the new Morpheus machine, which operates at an impressive speed of 140 bags per minute.

The new touchscreen interface of the Morpheus is user-friendly and resembles a typical smartphone, making it easy for operators to navigate and change settings. The machine is fully PackML compliant, offering a strong diagnostic system that includes advanced fault tracing with time and date stamps. Fault information is derived directly from the PLC code, pinpointing issues within the system.

We have also enhanced recipe maintenance, allowing you to store recipe files in the cloud, on a USB stick, or within the processor memory. The home tab on the touchscreen is divided into sections corresponding to different parts of the machine, aiding first-time operators in understanding how each section functions. For instance, the jaw section is critical for continuous motion, while the back seal section focuses on the bag's seal, each separated for clarity.

Matrix has partnered with Beckhoff Automation to provide an advanced, servo-based control system using Beckhoff EtherCAT. This PC-based control system is future-proof, fast, and supports real-time data export for remote monitoring. The rest of the electrical system remains simple and reliable, with pneumatics provided by SMC and a climate-controlled cabinet for hot environments.

The unwind system of the Morpheus is similar to our existing machines, featuring a mechanical brake and a photo-eye system for low film detection. We've added a printer system with an encoder for continuous web printing. Our commitment to producing reliable machinery with appropriate complexity is evident in the design of the Morpheus, ensuring high performance without unnecessary complications.

The Morpheus box motion machine excels in creating cross seals by following the film's motion, providing additional dwell time for sealing bags at any speed. The machine handles common vertical form fill seal issues, such as filler stumbling, by pausing until the filler catches up.

The Morpheus offers everything needed for vertical form fill seal applications, providing both speed and longer dwell times as required.
